Geometry and Proximity Constrained Query Evaluations over Large Geospatial Datasets Using Distributed Hash Tables

چکیده
Data volumes in the geosciences and related domains have grown significantly as sensing equipment designed to continuously gather readings and produce data streams for geographic regions have proliferated. The storage requirements imposed by these datasets vastly outstrip the capabilities of a single computing resource, leading to the use and development of distributed storage frameworks composed of commodity hardware. In this paper, we explore the challenges associated with supporting geospatial retrievals constrained by arbitrary geometric bounds, geographic proximity, and relevance rankings. Our solution involves the use of a lightweight, distributed spatial indexing structure, the geoavailability grid. Geoavailability grids provide global, coarse-grained representations of the spatial information stored within these ever-expanding datasets, allowing the search space of distributed queries to be reduced by eliminating storage resources that do not hold relevant information. The index can also be used in non-distributed settings, and performs competitively with other spatial indexing technologies.

Improved Densification of One Permutation Hashing
The existing work on densification of one permutation hashing [24] reduces the query processing cost of the (K,L)-parameterized Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH) algorithm with minwise hashing, from O(dKL) to merely O(d + KL), where d is the number of nonzeros of the data vector, K is the number of hashes in each hash table, and L is the number of hash tables. While that is a substantial improve...
متن کاملContinuous RDF Query Processing over DHTs
We study the continuous evaluation of conjunctive triple pattern queries over RDF data stored in distributed hash tables. In a continuous query scenario network nodes subscribe with long-standing queries and receive answers whenever RDF triples satisfying their queries are published. We present two novel query processing algorithms for this scenario and analyze their properties formally. Our pe...
متن کاملEvaluating Conjunctive Triple Pattern Queries over Large Structured Overlay Networks
We study the problem of evaluating conjunctive queries composed of triple patterns over RDF data stored in distributed hash tables. Our goal is to develop algorithms that scale to large amounts of RDF data, distribute the query processing load evenly and incur little network traffic. We present and evaluate two novel query processing algorithms with these possibly conflicting goals in mind. We ...
متن کاملBuilding Content-Based Publish/Subscribe Systems with Distributed Hash Tables
Building distributed content–based publish/subscribe systems has remained a challenge. Existing solutions typically use a relatively small set of trusted computers as brokers, which may lead to scalability concerns for large Internet–scale workloads. Moreover, since each broker maintains state for a large number of users, it may be difficult to tolerate faults at each broker. In this paper we p...
متن کاملRDFS Reasoning and Query Answering on Top of DHTs
We study the problem of distributed RDFS reasoning and query answering on top of distributed hash tables. Scalable, distributed RDFS reasoning is an essential functionality for providing the scalability and performance that large-scale Semantic Web applications require. Our goal in this paper is to compare and evaluate two well-known approaches to RDFS reasoning, namely backward and forward cha...
